1. extraordinary adj. 格外的；非比尋常的

extraordinarily adv. 格外地

例： We have had extraordinarily cold weather for the last two winters.

extraordinary 可以是正面或負面意義，但用來形容人時，一定是正面意義，故 She is an extraordinary woman. 意思是她是很傑出的女人。

2. retrieve v. [T] 取回；挽回

retrieval n. [U] 取回；挽回

retrievable  adj. 可取回的；可恢復的

retriever n. [C]（一種能尋回被射中獵物的）獵狗，拾獚

retrieve something from  由某處取回

information retrieval (IR)  資料檢索

be beyond/past retrieval 無法取回；無法挽回

golden retriever 黃金獵犬，金毛拾獚

例：I accidentally transferred some funds to the wrong account. I have to go to the bank as soon as it opens and find out if the money is retrievable.

3. brain n. [C] 腦；頭腦

當「頭腦」解時多用複數。

brain drain  人才外流

pick someone’s brains  請教別人

brain trust  智囊團

例：It’s certainly only a stereotype, but many people still assume that those who are good at sports have no brains.

　　Casanova racked his brains, trying to remember her name.

　　Our country has been suffering a huge brain drain to Western countries over the past few decades.

　　I’ve come to pick your brains about how you started your business.

　　The president of the company has set up a brain trust to help him make decisions.

4. regarding prep. 關於；至於

regard v. [T] 把……視為；認為

regard n. [U] 尊敬；器重

regards n. [pl.] 信函的問候

regardless adv. 不管怎樣地

regard someone/something as + N/adj. 視某人／物為……

with/in regard to  關於

as regards  關於；至於

hold someone/something in high regard

= have high regard for someone/something 尊敬；看重

in this/that regard  在這／那件事上

regardless of不管；不顧
